Ulcers… Why I feed Triple Crown Senior!

Effects of Stress
Triple Crown Senior is great for horses that are hard keepers, and those who need a bit of extra calories and nutrition when performing or being worked hard. It is also great for horses who have ulcers. Ulcers are a common problem in performance horses. Statistics say that 60% of performance horses have ulcers, i.e barrel horses, race horses, cutters, and the list goes on. Traveling up and down the road competing puts a lot of stress on a horse. Often times when horses are stressed, they go off feed. This results in an unbalanced digestive system. To have a healthy digestive system, a horse needs to have a continual source of feed. The stomach constantly produces acid that breaks down the food for digestion, and when there is nothing to digest, the acid eats away at the stomach resulting in an ulcer. When a horse eats, in particular, high fiber feedstuffs like hay and beet pulp based feeds, the food buffers the acid in the stomach.
Benefits of Triple Crown Senior
Triple Crown Senior is a beet pulp based feed. Beet pulp is often referred to as a “super fiber.” It helps millions of microbes in the horse’s hind-gut due to its ease of digestibility. The fiber-digesting bacteria in the hindgut can extract energy from the beet pulp while doing what is natural and necessary for them, breaking down the fiber via fermentation. The fiber in the beet pulp helps underweight horses put on weight, and the fermentation of it makes fatty acids, which are converted into energy. In simple terms, TC Senior helps your horse gain both energy and weight. Horses that are being competed on and worked heavily use a lot of energy. As much as 60-75% of the horses energy comes from the hindgut, so they need constant fiber to digest. When horses go off feed, a chain reaction of events result in poor overall health which can cause behavioral issues due to the fact that they don’t feel up to speed. In addition to the high fiber content, TC Senior is a palatable feed that horses look forward to eating.
My barrel racing horse is an eleven-year-old quarter horse. On average, we compete in roughly sixty rodeos a year. Traveling and competing is tough on his mental state which in turn effects his appetite, but he has never once refused his delicious meal of TC Senior. Triple Crown keeps us competing at the top of our game.
